I’m trying out the Jaw Liner
I’m exercising with the Jaw Liner for a month to help me keep my mouth shut at night.
Why?
Some time ago, I read Breath by James Nestor (check out my favorite books list). In it, he explains why snoring is NOT normal and how recent generations of humans have underdeveloped jaws—both in muscle and bone—leading to issues like mouth breathing, smaller noses, snoring, and difficulty chewing harder foods. These problems can snowball into many other health issues.
Breathing from your diaphragm regulates your nervous system, which used to be the default way humans breathed. Nowadays, with so much sitting and constant mouth breathing, we tend to take shallow, small breaths, which continually trigger our sympathetic nervous system. (Read more: [Coming soon] “Our Nervous System and Why It’s Important”)
Another reason to avoid mouth breathing is hygiene. Your nose filters dirt, pollen, and other contaminants from the air you breathe while keeping it at the ideal moisture level—your mouth doesn’t.
Lastly, there’s appearance. My jaw looks like it’s kind of melting off my face. I’m exercising all my other body parts, so why not this one?
What is a Jaw Liner?
The Jaw Liner is a tool designed to train your jaw muscles. Strengthening these muscles can help you keep your mouth shut, especially at night when you have less control. I don’t snore a lot, but in recent years, I’ve noticed I often wake up with a wet pillow. Besides being gross, this tells me my mouth is slightly open while I sleep.
How do I use it?
I’m going to give it a try for at least one month. I’ll be doing the exercises listed on their website and in the brochure every other day, as suggested.
I’ll be posting updates along the way. If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll also get more detailed updates every two weeks.

Disclaimer: I’m sharing my honest experience with the Jawliner here, but keep in mind I’m not a medical expert—just a regular person trying something new to improve my breathing. If you’re thinking about using something like this, maybe chat with a dentist or doctor first. Everyone’s body is different, and what works for me might not work for you.
